My New Venture

boo

I figured I would address and announce this now as it seems that a few smart cookies have already figured it out in the last couple of weeks.

I have had two great passions since I can remember. Photography and the beauty industry. If you’ve known me for a good part of my life, you know this to be true, especially my friends that were in ‘Photography Club’ with me at Hoover for three years, many of which I still keep in touch with! For those of you who don’t know the story, let me condense it for you:

11th grade. I want to graduate early. I am an impatient 17 year old who wants to move out and make money asap. I can start hair school right after graduating ORRRRRR I can wait on a two year waiting list for Hawkeye’s photography program. You all know which one that impatient 17 year old picked.

But I didn’t throw photography to the wayside. I begged my parents for a Canon Rebel xT as a graduation gift and that’s what I received! I played around with it but as I got busier and busier with working in a salon and planning a wedding, I put the camera down. And then we were pregnant! I majorly started rethinking my career path. Did and do I love doing hair? Yes! I love all of my clients. I’ve made wonderful lifelong friends from doing hair. But doing it full time wasn’t going to work for me or for us. I had always dreamed of being my own boss, watching my parents business grow was definitely inspiration for me.

I kept picking up my camera and playing with it though mostly privately as my confidence in my images had not yet blossomed. Right before Eisley was born Andrew and I sat down and had a long discussion. I told him how I felt like I had abandoned my most long standing passion because I was impatient. Because I was scared to fail. Andrew has always supported me but I had convinced myself he’d think I was crazy. I imagined he would tell me that I had gone to school for hair and that I was just being silly for wanting to make the change. But he didn’t. He looked me right in the eye and smiled at me and said,

I think you should do it.”

But he went beyond that. He invested in a new camera for me as a “push” present, encouraged me to purchase that lens I’d had my eye on, invested in other equipment that will make my business more cohesive. I brought the idea up to my family who all rooted me on. I believe my mom even said something along the lines of “About time.”

So if you haven’t figured it out yet, after many years of dreaming and months and months of planning I’m announcing that I will be starting a freelance photography business tentatively named :

nicoleharnoisphotographyyyy

A big thanks to everyone who has and is helping grow my portfolio these past few months. You all rock and I can’t wait to continue on this venture and see where it takes me!

yay!

  6. Congrats on your new venture, Nicole! Even though putting up a business is risky, if you think you can do it and know that you can do it, you should pursue it. Don’t be afraid of trying new things because you'll never know what kind of luck is waiting for you. It’s just a matter of optimism. And with Eisley Mae’s charm, I think luck’s on your side. :)
